Remember those tiny applications called Widgets, Gadgets, etc. on your Vista or Mac OS X. Well, UBUNTU has it too…

These small thingys are becoming standard included apps, in most modern distributions…

In UBUNTU though you have to install it…

To install it, from the terminal, type:

sudo apt-get install gdesklets gdesklets-data

Or else install it from Synaptic…

Here’s what the repository says about it:

“gDesklets is an architecture for “desklets”, which are tiny applets sitting on your desktop in a symbiotic relationship of eye candy and usefulness. You can populate your desktop with status meters, icon bars, weather sensors, news tickers… whatever you can imagine…Virtually anything is possible and may even be available some day.”

Eye candy… mmm!!! tasty!!!

Actually, its a great piece of software to make your Linux desktop look great, or if you want some neat little small apps for fast use, viewing system info, etc…

Here’s sample screenshot of a modified desktop…
